1 February 2014

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” [Matthew 27:46]

This is the first time Jesus called God as 'My God'. Before this, He called God 'My Father'. At the cross, Jesus took our sinful nature upon Himself and became the instrument of the world's sin which God was to judge.

If Jesus cried out 'My God, my God why have You forsaken me,' then by the same token, we can cry out to God, 'My Daddy, My Daddy, why have you so blessed me, loving me so lavishly!' Hallelujah!

...All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever... [1 Peter 1:24-25]

These verses give me great hope. So what if this singer is so great or this mathematician is so intelligent or this speaker is so charismatic? All flesh is grass. They fall away. Yet, one thing remains: God's Word. The Word which says, 'I will be merciful to their unrighteousness(es) and their sins and lawless deeds I remember no more' stands firm.

Therefore, I place my hope not in corruptible people but in the incorruptible God, whom I can boldly encounter through Jesus Christ mud Savior and intercessor.

With that, a blessed Lunar New Year to you and your household in our Lord Jesus Christ, that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)

亲爱的,我祝你凡事亨通,身体健壮,正如你的灵魂安泰一样。 (约翰叁书 1:2)

Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. [Psalm 34:3-4]

Would you like to know the context of this verse? It is when David was acting crazy to hide from the enemy! Yet in his despair, he sang, "let us exalt His name together!"

Today, as much as we declare that it is blessed by the grace of God, I'm saying that even when things go rough, you have a God whose angels encamp around you (Psalm 34:7). So, let us exalt His name together, forever. I sought The Lord and He delivered me from ALL my fears!

...speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord... [Ephesians 5:19]

Rather than be blinded by what others do, sing! I can't tell you about all the times God literally sings to me a worship song about Him. That really amazes me, I feel overwhelmed because God redirects my heart to Him.

I don't know about you, but before an activity, sing a song or a hymn or praise to the Lord and things just work in your favor. It's as though God designed praise to open the door to His grace. ITS NOT EARNING HIS GRACE. It's lepaking in His lepakness of music. God's music is surprisingly edifying to the soul.

Here's a simple song which is one of my favorites:

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I worship Your holy name

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; [1 Peter 1:13]

Reading the context of this verse tells us how to refrain from sin: by hoping in Jesus. What is hope? Confident expectation of good. Keep on keeping on having a confident expectation in Jesus for your good. Jesus wants you at your best and will strengthen you for your good! That is how we refrain from former lusts (1:14) and be holy, just as God is holy (1:16)

26 January 2014

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. [James 5:16]

Let's face it: everyone of us has messed up in life before. Heck, many of us are in a messed up life right now! How can we be healed? By letting Jesus take control.

The amazing thing about Jesus is that He knows everything good, bad and ugly about us and still loves us anyway! Why not just bring our junk to Him and let Him do the healing? That's what it means to confess our trespasses: to consent that we've messed up and need Jesus as our Savior to restore us, transforming weakness into strength!

27 January 2014

That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. [Ecclesiastes 3:13]

King Solomon uses this to describe God-given happiness (Ecclesiastes 3:12): enjoying your vocation! My friend, God has made you righteous through Christ and saved you from hell, but that's not it!

God wants you to inherit the kingdom of heaven! This includes a well-supplicated life, happiness and of course, sharing this good news with the people around us. He wants you to enjoy your work!

So stop complaining about studies and school! God placed you as a student for a reason: to glorify Him in your studies. How? By enjoying it! Ask God for the joy of studying! That is how we are holy, different from the world! In that we can be testimonies, light unto an ever-darkening world!

Ask God for the joy of your job this day! ;)

The Secret to Effortlessly Excellent Grades

Hi there. If you’re reading this, I presume one of the following three possibilities:
1) You are a student and want to excel in your studies effortlessly with no work
2) You were redirected from the daily verses message sent in the morning
3) You stumbled on my blog page by chance and/or other reasons

So, you want to know how to succeed effortlessly in your exams. You want to attain the perfect score in your General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations. You want to rise above the mediocre in your academic performance. In fact, while you’re at it, while you reign in your academic life, why not also reign in life? Why not also reign over sickness, poverty, trials and tribulations?

The Bible tells us how to reign in life. For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). [Romans 5:17 AMP] It is by receiving God’s abundance of grace, which is unmerited favor (unearned and underserved, by the way), and the free gift (not reward) of right standing before God.

You want to reign over sin and sickness? Receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.
You want to reign over depression and defeat? Receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.
You want to reign over trials and tribulations? Receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.
You want to reign over poor grades and poverty? Receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

But how? Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. [Matthew 6:33 KJ21] Seek first the kingdom of God. And all these things, good grades, financial stability, perfect health, healthy relationships and much more, will be added unto you. They are complementary.

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? [Romans 8:32 NKJV] God could have chosen to give us over to death and spare Jesus, signifying how much more He loves Jesus than us underserving people. But what did God do? He gave Jesus over to death and spared us, signifying how much more He loves us than Jesus. If Jesus is God the Father’s darling beloved child, in whom He is well pleased (Mark 1:11), how much more does God the Father love us as His children?

Pastor Joseph Prince, one of the frontrunners of the gospel of grace in the 21st century, once said this: You will never understand how much God loves you until you realize how much God loves Jesus, because He gave Jesus up for you.

And if the Father has given heaven’s best, His only begotten Son (John 3:16), how much more does His blessings follow, since Jesus is heaven’s best? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? The word ‘freely’ there means graciously, and undeservingly. God has freely lavished all of heaven’s blessings unto your life! And He will empower you to life a life that glorifies Him. He gives you the gift of no condemnation, so that you can go and sin no more. (John 8:11) But not just that! His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. [2 Peter 1:3 NASB] We know what it means for godliness, but what about life?

Does health pertain to life? He has given you all things.
Do finances pertain to life? He has given you all things.
Do relationships pertain to life? He has given you all things.

Now, what does that mean practically? Does it mean to study hard? Will studying hard produce good results, as the world defines it? Well, studying hard and working hard does produce results; limited results. Why? It’s because that’s relying on self–effort. And let’s face it: as humans, we are limited. We get limited glory for our limited work. How then, can work produce unlimited glory? Let God do the work, and He gets unlimited glory for His unlimited work. “If God wants to have all the glory, let Him do all the work,” says Pastor Prince1. Let God study through you rather than you studying on your own. Let God work while you rest. Rest in His abundance of grace and gift of righteousness for success. And when you do succeed in His grace, return all glory that He gave you to Him. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Just to clarify, it does NOT mean to slack off. If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. (2 Thessalonians 3:10) Don’t think of trying to get good results without studying. However, don’t think that studying alone gets you good results. It’s not by your effort that you excel; it’s by His effort. How to put it even more practically? Love your job. The Bible says that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor: it is the gift of God. [Ecclesiastes 3:12–14 KJ21] So, in whatever vocation you are in, enjoy it!

If you are a teacher, enjoy teaching with God’s wisdom! That’s how you teach for the glory of God!
If you are a civil worker, enjoy working with God’s wisdom! That’s how you work for the glory of God!
If you are a business, enjoy doing business with God’s wisdom! That’s how you do business for the glory of God!

And, for most of you reading this: If you are a student, enjoy studying and do it with God’s wisdom! That’s how you study for the glory of God!

What I’m trying to say is this: God has already given you good results. He has already secured excellence in your student life, not just in academia, but also as an all–rounder. How then do you get good results? By resting in God’s sure favor for you, that though you deserve it not, He gave it to you on account that you, the believer, are the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21) and hence, your lack of qualification, by your efforts, allow you to accept Jesus as your qualification to all the blessings in Deuteronomy 28. You are already qualified for good results! It is God’s blessing for you, underserved and unmerited, according to the riches of His grace.

How then do you take hold of it? By resting in God. Resting in God does not mean that you will slack off. It means that you let God work in you, through you and for you. Let God give you the joy and passion for studying. Let God give you the love for school, church and so on. Let God bring you to the right place and the right time, all the time. Surely goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life! (Psalm 23:6) So, by all means, study! But study with the grace of God. Don’t study for good results; study from good results.

Don’t study to attain what you want. Study to attain what God wants. And what does God want? That you enjoy your vocation. Ask God to give you that joy. Surrender your studies to God. Give God all the glory by letting Him do all the work for you! Let God be your joy in studying. Let Jesus be the center of your studies! Let go and let God study through you. And you won’t be able to help it but see effortless success!

Just to leave you with this nugget: the word 'saved' in the original text (Greek) is not just 'to rescue'. It is to rescue, but it also means to "heal, preserve, save (self), do well and be (make) whole". Receiving Jesus, just trusting in His finished work, will open the doors to wholeness, wellness, health and preservation. It's all about Jesus!

If you would like to be saved, you may pray this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. Thank You for loving me and dying for me on the cross. Your precious blood washes me clean of every sin. You are my Lord and my Saviour, now and forever. I believe that You rose from the dead and that You are alive today. Because of Your finished work, I am now a beloved child of God and heaven is my home. Thank You for giving me eternal life, and filling my heart with Your peace and joy. Amen.

25 January 2014

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), [Galatians 3:13]

The Bible tells us cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. What is a tree made of? Wood. What is the cross made of? Wood. Christ died on a cross of wood. Hence He became a curse.

Jesus became sin that we may become righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Jesus was striped that we may be healed (Isaiah 53:5)

Jesus became poor that we might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9)

By the same token, Jesus, who hanged on the cross, became cursed that we might be BLESSED!

24 January 2014

Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. [Psalm 84:4]

Every time after I've been to a church or a cell which exalts Jesus, I can't help but feel extra happy, joyful and energized than before. Dwelling in God's house is such a blessing!

Do you know that you can host God? The Bible tells us that we are God's temple! What a blessing! What undeserved favor from God Almighty!

Keep exalting the name of Jesus: that's how you host the presence of God, and while you're at it, be helplessly, irrevocably blessed!

23 January 2014

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” [Psalm 46:10]

In the midst of trials and worrying times, God is telling you, "Be still and know that I am God. I am in control and my name will be exalted among the nations." Do not worry! God is in control!

Wherever God leads you, He will bring you through fully. I firmly believe this wise saying: if God brings you to a situation, He will bring you through it. Trust Him. He makes all things beautiful in His time. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

22 January 2014

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. [2 Corinthians 5:17]

Why does the Holy Spirit honor believers as new creations? That is because our sinful flesh has died with Christ at the cross. The life that now lives in us is the life that worships and glorifies Jesus.

Why then do we still sin? Just like how we get the wavy feeling after a long ride on the waters, so is like sin. It still bugs us, even though God has already seen it condemned at the cross. Now, God wants to teach us new creations the victorious life, the Christ-centered life that brings forth reigning in life! So you are a new creation, righteous and blameless, apart from your works!

21 January 2014

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” [Acts 16:31]

When we believe in Jesus, we are saved. Now 'saved' in the original text (Greek) is not just 'to rescue'. It is to rescue, but it also means to "heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole"

In other words, when we believe in Jesus, He will make our life whole. He will enable us to do well in whatever we do. He will heal us of our hurts and completely save us, from hell to heaven rescue for eternity, to daily saving even here on earth!

20 January 2014

...as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world. [1 John 4:17]

Jesus didn't just die. On the third day, He rose up from the dead! Now He is seated at God's right hand making intercession for us! And the Bible says that as Jesus is, so are we in this world!

Making it personal,
Is Jesus righteous? So is Joel in this world.
Is Jesus holy? So is Charmaine in this world.
Is Jesus blameless? So is Charlene in this world.

And taking it one step further:
Is Jesus healthy? So is Justin in this world.
Is Jesus supplicated? So is Olivia in this world.
Is Jesus reigning in life? So is Yii Jie in this world.

Personalize your identity in Him! As Jesus is, so is (your name) in this world!

19 January 2014

...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; [Ephesians 6:17]

What is the Word of God? John 1 tells us that 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.' (1:1) and if we drop down to verse 14, 'the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth'

In verse 17, 'grace and truth came by Jesus Christ'. So the Word here is Jesus Christ!

I hope you realize by today that every part of the armor of God is talking about Jesus. Whenever you feel fearful, run to the cross! There is your comfort, your salvation, your deliverance, your victory! Run to Jesus!

18 January 2014

And take the helmet of salvation... [Ephesians 6:17]

What is salvation? The Bible tells us on Psalm 27:1 that the LORD (in Hebrew 'Yahweh') is my salvation. Now what is the significance of 'Yahweh'?

Yahweh is made of the Hebrew equivalent of the letters 'YHVH'. Every letter has a meaning:

Y: Hand
H: Grace
V: Nail
H: Grace

Put them together, YHVH, you get the (open) hand of grace nailed in grace. That's Jesus! So JESUS IS OUR SALVATION! Hallelujah!

17 January 2014

...above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. [Ephesians 6:16]

What is faith? In Greek, the word faith is the word 'pistis'. This same word is the root word of 'believe', where in John 3:16, "whoever 'believed' in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life"

Faith, therefore means, trusting in Jesus, that through the cross, we can have everlasting life, and in Jesus, life more abundantly! (John 10:10) Faith is found in Jesus; again this armor piece talks about Jesus!

...and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace... [Ephesians 6:15]

Bible-interpret-Bible: what is peace? The Bible tells us that the punishment for our peace was laid upon Jesus, and by His stripes, we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

This peace is peace in knowing that I am healed because Jesus was striped and cursed on my behalf. God can legally heal me and give me divine peace because He punished my sin in the body of Christ. By His stripes, I am healed!

15 January 2014

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness... [Ephesians 6:14]

We interpret the Bible with Bible: what is truth and righteousness? The Bible tells us that Jesus is the way, the (definite article) truth and the life. (John 14:6) So Jesus is the truth.

What about righteousness? The Bible says that Jesus became sin for us so that in Him we may become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21) In Jesus, we are righteous. Therefore, Jesus is our righteousness!

Wow... the armor here points back toward Jesus Christ! Live in the love of your Savior: healer, redeemer, lover. Hallelujah!

14 January 2014

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [Ephesians 6:11-13]

The way to resist the devil is to put on the Armor of God, and how do we do that? By filling our mind with Christ. Let Jesus study through us instead of us struggling on our effort. Let Jesus teach with miraculous results rather than ourselves.

The devil wants us self-conscious and the antidote to this is to be Christ-conscious. Start seeing Jesus in every area of your life, be it finances, family or friends. Jesus, your Savior, healer, and lover, wants to live your life! That's how we overcome the enemy!

13 January 2014

The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts. [Proverbs 17:3]

The Lord tests our hearts which He sees as gold with refining fire, to remove the impurities that ruin pure gold. God sees you as pure gold and is refining you with trials, difficulties, that your faith in Him and trusting in His lead will grow.

How do we overcome? Letting Jesus take control. He began it and He will end it. I am 100% sure of that! This focus on Jesus alone is what God wants and sees in pure gold. Let Jesus be our satisfaction especially in the midst of the trial; He will take us through, stronger and wiser than ever before!

Frozen and Christianity

The first time I watched the Disney film ‘Frozen’ was the penultimate day of 2013 (30 December 2013), which I panned to be overrated upon my departure from the theaters. I watched it again yesterday, with my brother, this time with my glasses on. Now, I revoke my past critique of the movie and consent to extreme satisfaction with the movie.

This time, however, I’ve decided to collate my insights on this film, not focusing on its synopsis or its aesthetical appeal, as brilliant as they may be, but on how this film is a wonderful illustration of Jesus and the love of God. This exposition may not be perfect due to my limited knowledge as well as the limitations of typology in the movie, but I shall work with my capabilities to prove my point.

The film kicks off with two sisters Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), princesses of the kingdom of Arendelle, joyfully playing with snow created by cryokinetically–powered Elsa, a wonderful picture of how God and man enjoyed fellowship (inferred from Genesis 3:8) with the purity and innocence of man’s heart. While the sisters played in the winter wonderland, Elsa accidentally struck Anna’s head with a blast of ice. This is where the type is limited, since Elsa, though more powerful, is representative of sinful man whose falls short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and Anna, though a regular human being, portrays the omnipotent God, hurt and upset that man has chosen himself to be his god rather than God by disobeying Him in the garden. (Genesis 3:11)

Since then, their royal parents decreed total separation between the two sisters, lest anyone get hurt more by Elsa’s snowbending, a picture of separation of man in his sin from God in His righteousness. (Genesis 3:23–24) Ever since then, Anna has always been trying to penetrate into Elsa’s isolation, time and time again, from knocking the door as a child to adolescence and, even after the unfortunate fatality of their parents, as an adult. Clearly, this pictures God’s numerous attempts to reach out to man, by clothing them with skins (Genesis 3:21), saving Noah to preserve the human lifeline despite devastative sin in men (Genesis 6–9), using Abraham to reach out to wild humanity (Genesis 12:1–3) and ultimately with Jesus (John 3:16). Even today, God is still sending out missionaries to reach out to the unreached people groups (Matthew 28:18–20) just so to reconcile with man. (2 Corinthians 5:19)

Following the lonely growing up of the sisters was Anna’s infatuation and misconception of true love with Hans of the Southern Isles (voiced by Santino Fontana). Here, the role of Anna portrayed not of God but of man’s foolishness, assuming true love as eros love rather than agape love. Man looks for love but in all the wrong places, and is eventually further buffeted by them, exemplified by Anna’s failure to get Han’s true love kiss later on, if it were true love at all. And true love only came by being reconciled with sister Elsa, similar as to how man can only receive true love by returning to God, who is the epitome of love. (1 John 4:8)

Elsa, after objecting to Anna and Hans’ engagement, unintentionally let loose her ice powers and set off an Arendelle–wide flurry of a violent winter. This led Anna to chase after her, once again, this time with assistance from an initially hesitant Kristoff (voicer Jonathan Groff). Kristoff, during the wolf chase, was particularly resembling of man’s self–effort to solve problems by trying to tackle the wolves on his own, but failing to actually resolve the issue. On the contrary, a scuffle with the wolves let him see his need for Anna’s sharp reaction, just like how many only ask God for merciful help once they find themselves in a pickle. Yet, Anna came through. Yet, God came through. (Romans 8:28)

Anna sought after Elsa once more at her ice castle, but Elsa continually fled and ordered Anna to leave, in fear. Man is not ignorant of God; he choses to be so because he fears His holiness and does not want to acknowledge that he is wrong, and as such admit that he is in dire need of a savior. Elsa strikes Anna again with another icy blast, this time at the heart, which could potentially be fatal. In man’s despair he continually, time and time again, breaks God’s heart, over and over again (added for emphasis). To find a cure, Anna and Kristoff searched for the trolls whose leader explained that only an act of true love could salvage Anna’s life. Again, Anna’s role reversed as only true love can save man from his never–ending pursuit for love.

Cliched true love’s kiss failed, leading the four Arendellers into the Norwegian blizzard. While Anna could have been saved by Kristoff’s kiss, she glanced in the corner of her eye a guilty Elsa in the face of assassination by Hans, symbolizing man being broken further by man. In an act of true love, Anna stood between the two, froze, and blocked the blow, disintegrating Hans’ sword and saving Elsa’s life: the perfect depiction of true love, that one lays down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) You see; God loves you so much, that He never gave up wooing you. He went to the full extent to redeem you: sacrificing Himself to His justice (Hebrews 10:12) that you may be righteously restored with His love.

Elsa, after being touched by Anna’s agape love and Anna thawing due to that act, used her love to thaw the kingdom. Summer returned, Olaf enjoyed summer thanks to Elsa’s miniature flurry above him, Anna and Kristoff get together, Hans was banished and the sisters finally reunite after more than two decades of separation. That is the gospel. That God wants to reunite with you. Even though you were afraid, even though you’ve messed up, big time, even though you’ve let Him down over and over and over again, He still wants to pick you up each time you fall and enjoy communion with you. He loves you. And once you are convicted of His love for you, you have the power to influence the world around you for His glory. You are finally blessed, to be a blessing.

The kingdom of wintery chills was birthed out of fear, and Anna’s love for Elsa thawed her frosty fear, transforming her heart of icy hardness into a heart of loving warmth. Perfect love casts out all fear. (1 John 4:18) God wants to take your fear and turn it into love, not your simple perception of eros love, but God’s perfect example of agape love, that you may revolutionize the world with the Father’s love.

God loves you, but God, in His righteousness, hates the sin in you and must eradicate it with death (Romans 6:23), yet in His love He didn’t want to punish you. So He made the first move: by taking your sin and punishing it in the body of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus became your sin that you may become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21) and the only way to be saved is to believe on Him, confessing that He is Lord. (Romans 10:9) He died that you may live. (2 Corinthians 5:15)

Amen.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. [Ephesians 2:8-9]

Salvation is a gift from God. Say 'gift' 3 times. Gift, gift, gift.

It is not a reward. It's a gift.

This means you did not earn your salvation and cannot credit yourself for your salvation. It means that Jesus earned your salvation and we can credit only Jesus for it. That's why when we receive Jesus, we receive salvation, because Jesus bought our salvation with His redeeming blood! Hallelujah!

Now 'saved' in the original text (Greek) is not just 'to rescue'. It is to rescue, but it also means to "heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole". Receiving Jesus, just trusting in His finished work, will open the doors to wholeness, wellness, health and preservation. It's all about Jesus!

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. [Galatians 5:4]

One thing we do will make us fall away from the grace of God: trying to earn our blessings. I'm not saying don't work, but when the focus of our work is our work and not Jesus, trying to fend for ourself instead of resting in the Savior, we have fallen from grace, for we try to earn our physical salvation (in work, for example).

My friends, stop coming to God with your best efforts. To Him it's just like grass. (1 Peter 1:24-25) God don't want you putting up a show in front of Him. He wants you to boldly encounter Him, here's the key phrase, through His Son. He wants your righteousness, blessing, provision not due to your stinky works, as with my stinky works, but due to the finished work of Christ, that Christ was cursed so that you and I might be blessed!

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. [Psalm 23:6]

SURELY.

Mercy in Hebrew is the word 'hesed' which means grace! Goodness and GRACE will follow you. How long? ALL the days of my life.

And I will just stay? Just lepak? Yes, and more: DWELL in the house of God, not office, temple or church of God but HOUSE of God your Daddy. For how long? FOREVER!

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. [Psalm 23:5]

Preparing a table here does not mean a wooden table but it means setting up food. It seems as though the key to overcoming the enemy is eating your way into victory! God wants you to look not at the big situation but look at the big God! He is your source of food to overcome the situation!

Oil here is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. Even in trials, God wants to let the Holy Spirit overflow from us. He wants us to be filled with the Holy Spirit and let His presence, which scares the enemy, overflow.

Overflow!

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. [Psalm 23:4]

This is the strength that will empower you to fear nothing, not even death: the presence of your Savior. Nothing can separate you from the love of Christ, ever (Romans 8:38-39).

The rod and staff are used for discipline of the sheep to continue walking in the paths of righteousness (23:4). Don't be afraid when God redirects your plans: He's training you to be wiser and stronger than ever before! God disciplines you 'cos He loves you!

He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. [Psalm 23:3]

Do you feel tired and weary from Singapore's hustle and bustle? A vacation may help but the foolproof solution is to let Jesus restore your soul. Let Jesus fill your mind with Himself and His beauty.

Let Him remind you that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. Nothing shall prevail against you with this conviction. Nothing at all.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. [Psalm 23:2]

What does 'lying' in 'green pastures' for a sheep mean? It means source of rest and source of food! Good food will produce the spiritual outcomes we so over-focus on. All we have to do is eat in the presence of God. Eat from Jesus, the bread of life.

And the still waters? It's our source of drinking! We may feel thirsty, but our shepherd is leading us beside still waters for a refreshing drink.

All that we need is found in Jesus, our precious shepherd. Seek Him first and His righteousness and all the solutions to your physical issues and concerns will be added unto you where Jesus is center. (Matthew 6:33)

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. [Psalm 23:1]

When the Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He gives me abundant provision of food, strength, resources and rest. I need not want anything, for God Almighty is my provider.

He will provide you the strength to study or teach and lead, when He is your shepherd. See Jesus as your shepherd this day and forevermore!

Now You have been pleased to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You have blessed it, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever.” [1 Chronicles 17:27]

Let's think about it: Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth, the One who can bend matter and time, the being who gave His darling one and only beloved Son for humanity is pleased to bless our houses, the houses of sinful, pathetic humanity?

This is awesome grace I'm talking about!

Beloved, God is pleased to bless you! Your part? Receive freely His blessings, blessings to give you a hope and a future, blessings to empower you as you study for His glory, blessings to be a blessing to the world!

...as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”... [Joshua 5:14]

This commander is a picture of Jesus! It means that whatever battle or situation coming your way, rest assured, because JESUS HIMSELF has control of your situation.

"Will it, then, turn in my favour?"

I don't know. What I do know is that when Jesus is in charge, everything will bring God glory. Joshua's people in the context of the verse triumphed over Jericho, but not without 7 testing days of marching.

My encouragement to you is this: trust your situation to Jesus if you want to see Jesus glorified in it!

He has made everything beautiful in its time... [Ecclesiastes 3:11]

A few days ago, when I was asking God for His vision for my 2014, He gave me this verse, that God makes everything beautiful in His time.

My friend, fret not for 2014, for God makes ALL THINGS beautiful in His time. And we know that all things (whether good or bad) work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) God will turn your trials into blessings and your evil to good.

He makes everything beautiful in His time.
