For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. [Ephesians 2:8-9]

Salvation is a gift from God. Say 'gift' 3 times. Gift, gift, gift.

It is not a reward. It's a gift.

This means you did not earn your salvation and cannot credit yourself for your salvation. It means that Jesus earned your salvation and we can credit only Jesus for it. That's why when we receive Jesus, we receive salvation, because Jesus bought our salvation with His redeeming blood! Hallelujah!

Now 'saved' in the original text (Greek) is not just 'to rescue'. It is to rescue, but it also means to "heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole". Receiving Jesus, just trusting in His finished work, will open the doors to wholeness, wellness, health and preservation. It's all about Jesus!
